Ungrateful Me
Cascadia, an exotic film by Murry SipleI was at work today listening to some snowboard jams on my iPod, which of course had me thinking about snowboarding, snowboarding videos to be more specific. So I arrive home only to find a big and rather thick envelope from the The House addressed to me sitting on the kitchen table. I will admit, I was a bit curious as to what was inside. I tear into the package and find a new catalog and a snowboard video entitled Cascadia! Cool, I didn't even order it so this must be totally free. I remove the the plastic wrap and slide the tape out (yeah VHS) and see a date of 1996 on it.. no big deal, it's free. So I pop the tape into the dusty VCR, hey DVD is the wave of the future. Now let me say that this is by no means a Mack Dawg Productions quality film, no no no.. I watched this film and my jaw dropped. I believe I have watched the craziest fuckin' snowboard flick ever made. These guys have some kind of fascination with killing each other and spilling as much fake blood as possible. Guys dressed in gorilla suits kicking the shit out of snowboarders and drowning them in the water. One skit showed two guys stabbing the shit out of another dude and spilling his fake guts on the ground. I could deal with all of that, it is a bit funny in a way, certainly in 1996. What got me was the fucked up soundtrack. Wacky ass acid jazz gone crazy with folk rock from the seventies blended with some hard funk, tripped out sounds and fucked up dialogue is what you get on this film. I was a bit freaked out by it all. I actually found a trailer for the film, check it out if you dare. I should write a thank you letter to The House for sending me their shit that they could not sell for $19.95. I wonder how many other poor souls received this film in the mail.
